johnson family.

As we enter the time to give a voice to small joys and celebrate Thanksgiving, we find ourselves more than grateful to have wonderful clients such as the Johnson family. If this name sounds familiar, it's because we worked with Billy and Elizabeth earlier this year to basically create a local-themed gallery using canvas prints stretching the four new offices for Billy's business in Roswell.

As wonderful a time we had working on this project, we certainly missed the personality and unpredictability people bring to photos. So it was with great pleasure we met up with this family of five in downtown Woodstock for a mini session. Meeting their kids was a blast as each one carried his/her own unique personality in such a fun way. Plus I knew we would get along well after discovering our shared love of all things chocolate. Bribery brownies? Oh yeah, we definitely stuck around for those after the shoot!

Billy and Elizabeth, you've got yourself an awesome clan! We're so glad to know you all!

joe + alisa. engaged.

Contrast. Although on the surface level this word describes the unlikeliness of things, on an artistic and creative level, contrast really brings out and intensifies each element involved--like the awesomeness that come from a salted caramel dessert (yum).

I'm excited to share this engagement session with you today because of all the beautiful contrast involved. Beyond the fact that it was sunny and warm in November, we found several other interesting contrasting elements to capture--all in one new city park in an old part of town.

Joe and Alisa met us at the new Old Fourth Ward Park in Atlanta one beautiful midday afternoon recently. These two are so fun loving and wonderful to talk to, our time together seemed to fly by. Alisa is a strong, independent gal, and Joe brings out the beautiful contrast of soft smiles hiding within her. Together, they're definitely a power couple. And thankfully they were up for any idea we had! In this one particular location, we were able to cover looks from soft and romantic to striking and dramatic. We were even so excited to find a burst of yellow flowers in contrast to the fallen-leaved landscape, we had these two sitting in a ditch! Apparently we'll ask people to do just about anything to try for an interesting shot idea. (Glad we did.)

Joe found this little nail poking out of a piece of wood next to the bay we had them standing in, and I all but jumped (ok, maybe I left the ground a little) at the chance to have Alisa's beautiful and shining engagement ring pop out against these worn and weathered materials.

Joe and Alisa, thank you for a beautiful afternoon. We can't wait to see you again in February for your wedding!

beltline lantern parade.

Paper lilies with fiery flames were being set down upon the water when we arrived at the new Old Fourth Ward Park this past weekend for a lantern parade as part of "Art on the Atlanta Beltline." With picnic baskets and lanterns in hand, the community was gathering in a spot that hasn't seen togetherness like this in quite some time. Part of the reason Bryan and I love living in this city is because it stays true to its symbol of the phoenix--old , worn parts become new and revitalized over and over again. Excited about the Beltline project and our new park, we couldn't help but stroll over for the evening. Plus, Bryan got to play with the Black Sheep Ensemble as they and the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons led the parade of lanterns around the lake. And the night ended with a fun performance by the Imperial Opa Circus! I grabbed a camera before we left to take a few personal photos, but they turned out kinda fun and a simple evening out turned evocative and entertaining, so I thought I'd share. Guess you never know when you'll be in the middle of something uniquely terrific. And that's just what this was.

Thanks to all who helped create a lovely evening full of whimsy and sparks of imagination. Love being a part of our little community here in the "O4W" and hope this will become an annual event!

And stay tuned for our next post where, since we had such a great time, we return to this park the next day for a wonderful, sunny engagement session!

isaiah + cameron. family.

A boy and his dad, and a late afternoon hanging out in the park playing with trains. With eyes full of wonder and smiles of joy, the historic square of Marietta was the perfect location for three-year-old Cameron and his father, Isaiah, to have their mini holiday portrait session! The advantage to having this shoot outdoors in one of Cameron's favorite spots is that we were really able to capture all the energy, excitement and expressions he packs into being three and spending time with his family. As his curls bounced around the park, I can't help but think this kid has some hearts to break in his future!

It's not hard to see where Cameron gets his handsome looks! And it wasn't difficult at all to see how much he loved his Lala. Even though Larissa didn't intend on jumping into any photos, I couldn't resist grabbing a few sweet moments she shared with her grandson. We don't have kids, but from what I understand, when a three-year-old stops running to hug you, you soak it in!

Isaiah and Cameron, we had a blast running (literally) around the park with you! You guys are quite the handsome duo and you've got wonderful personalities to boot! We can't wait to see your holiday cards, and hope to see you again as well!
