wedding feature: Rustic Wedding Chic

Today I'm reminded of how much I love a good backyard wedding. There's so much love involved. And it's so personal. If you're surrounded by friends and family who love to lend a helping hand, this could be just the kind of relaxed style for you. Check out this post on Rustic Wedding Chic today to see if this style is a fit for you! I'm thrilled they featured a few images from Anna + Madison's wedding! From the handmade wedding dress her mother crafted to the whole hog her father roasted for the reception, every moment and detail fit this couple perfectly.

Have a marvelous day!

tuesday tip: custom stamp

New name. New home.

Whether you're getting keys to fancy new digs or keeping your own, after you're married, your place will be a new home for a new couple starting a new adventure. There's something about committing yourself to someone else and stepping out to write your own story together that makes the word "home" have a completely new meaning.

Saying that, the tip this Tuesday is to get yourselves a custom address stamp created. Not only can it be fun to incorporate into your invitation suite, it will also be used for a stack of thank you notes right away as well. I know I love getting to use ours!

The invitation suite and address stamp in these photos are designs of byKsenia. I love how she incorporated her painting and graphic design skills for this couple!

meagan phillips headshots.

Meagan worked on game day scripts and promotions for her college's football and basketball teams. She found keeping a collegiate team on a tight schedule was a challenge she really liked. Then, when she was in the middle of planning her own out-of-state wedding, she knew she found a niche and future career for herself. She says she instantly loved using her planning skills for something a lot more pretty!

From mason jars to martini glasses, Meagan loves the details that go into planning a wedding. This Georgia-born gal says she holds on to her Southern roots by way of her hospitality and manners, but she also loves luxury, glamour and just about anything that sparkles in the light. And so begins her new venture: Southern Glam Wedding & Events.

I'm so thrilled I get to be a part of the launching of someone's dream career!

Meagan, thanks so much for the opportunity to capture some headshots for your new business! Can't wait to see great things from Southern Glam!

tuesday tip: piece of cake

You're flipping through a bridal magazine and ogling over a gorgeous five-tiered wedding cake. It's dripping with luscious luxury and beautiful hand-placed pearls. You just have to have it towering over your reception. This scenario sounds wonderful if you're having nearly 300 guests at your wedding. But if you're only expecting around 150, you're family is going to be boxing up a lot of baked goodness to take home and devour.

No matter the theme or style of your wedding, it's important to start with the number of guests you expect, and then plan your cake or cupcakes from there. Lucky for our brides and readers, we're great friends with the one and only Mamie Doyle of Miss Mamie's Cupcakes, Cakes & Such, and she has graciously given us a helpful guide to share! By reviewing these custom charts we created before going to your cake tasting (seriously, one of the best parts of planning), you'll get a better idea of dessert options based on your guest list so you're prepared to talk details with your pastry chef of choice.

For those of you who may be new followers of Tin Can, you can read about our humble beginnings and special relationship with this bakery HERE.

A tasty tip!

All of the beautiful cakes and cupcakes pictured in our charts were created by Miss Mamie's in Marietta. We certainly look forward to the reception time when we know a masterpiece by this bakery is on display!

meagan phillips headshots preview.

I certainly enjoyed getting to spend time with this sweet, Southern gal this past weekend! Meagan and her husband live in south Florida, so I was thrilled to hear from them when they made plans to visit Atlanta and schedule a photo shoot during the long weekend. I had a blast taking some clean and contemporary headshots for her and hearing all about plans for her new event planning business--a career I can tell she'll be perfect for!

home tour feature: The Everygirl

Traditional basics with pops of color around every corner. If this describes the theme of your wedding or style of home you'd love to create, you'll love getting to know Hollie Hill behind Home with the Hills. We were honored to be asked to photograph her Home Tour by The Everygirl and were blown away by the amazing design and detail in every space of her home here in Atlanta!

As we Southerners survive whatever wintry mix may come our way today, this bright and cheery home will give you a quick escape from the gray hues outdoors. (Plus, Hollie offers some great tips on how she actually saved money by having pieces like her gorgeous coffee table custom-made!)

tuesday tip. wedding email.

I have to stop and remind myself each week that the new brides I meet with are beautiful and full of anticipatory passion, but they may not be privy to navigating the wide world of wedding planning. Nor should they need to be, really, before the big question is popped. I remember when I first dipped my foot into the planning pool. It's exhilarating! And it can easily become exhausting. You can find yourself treading water in the deep end without realizing how you got out that far pretty quickly. (Although you can probably thank a cushy leather chair at the bookstore and the latte guy. Or was that just me?)

Between my own experience as a bride, my work as a photographer, my RSS feed and the amazing industry professionals I find myself in the midst of, I get a daily dose of wedding-ness. Along the way, I pick up tips and tidbits to pass along to my clients that will allow them to relish this time in their life instead of wanting to relinquish it. Thus began the idea for the Tuesday Tip: a weekly blog feature to pass along insightful bites of information to help you plan your big day.

First up is a tip I've collected from one of our recent brides. She's a self-proclaimed type A planner, and I knew we'd hit it off before I even met her. When I received her new client inquiry email, I noticed it was from smith.joneswedding@serviceprovider.com (names changed, of course). She created a free email account solely to plan her wedding! When I asked her about it, she said it helped her keep everything together in one place and better manage the time she was allotting each day for wedding planning. What a great idea!

Can't wait to share another tip next week!

louis lugo headshots.

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking some headshots for a local musician Louis Lugo. Louis currently plays for the Georgia Brass Band and works as a freelance trombonist among other things. We had a great time as we found a few spots around the city reflecting his personality and also grabbing a few more classic shots as well.

As we're in the middle of the off-season in wedding world, you may find a few different projects popping up here on the blog. I'm excited to have work during this time that continues to challenge and enhance my skills as an artist and photographer. I'm also getting to know some pretty awesome people in the process as the film and music scene in Atlanta continues to grow.

Great to see and work with you, Louis. Hope we also get to hear you soon!

joe + lauren maternity.

Meeting up with Lauren and Joe recently for a mini maternity session was such a pleasure. In three short months, they are going to be blessed with a beautiful new member of their family. Getting to document this momentary time in their lives was an honor. As Lauren looks through these photos during her last term, I hope she's able to see just how beautiful and radiant she looks carrying her first child. And when that kiddo grows up, it will be fun to one day show him or her these images of the very beginning.

It was so great to see you guys and capture a few shots of this time in your lives. We wish you all the best and look forward to meeting the newest Dunaway soon!

louis lugo head shots.preview.

Over the weekend, we got the opportunity to take some head shots for local trombone player, Louis Lugo. Musician head shots are quickly becoming one of my favorite things to shoot outside of weddings. And with Bryan playing and teaching in the area, we get to know some pretty cool cats.

And doesn't that new logo look good on our photos?!

brand new.

It is with great excitement and months of anticipation that I introduce to you the new presence of Tin Can Photography! (And there was much rejoicing!)

If you take a walk around the web site, blog and client gallery page, you'll notice something that's new and delightful---design in harmony and in sync with who we are as a company and as photographers--both classic and candid. Many, many thanks to the talent and ingenuity of our creative collaborator and master designer,  Ksenia Podgornaya Phillips of byKsenia! She was able to get to know our personalities, as well as that of our images, and create pieces representative of who we are. And she hit the nail right on the head!

I can't wait to start getting in all of our paper goods!

A brand new step in a truly amazing direction.
