tuesday tip: guest book

So you took so many great engagement photos, you don't know how to possibly use all the ones you adore. There are worse problems to have!

One of our most recent couples had the great idea to use their engagement photos in a coffee table styled book and have guests sign in the available white spaces. We designed a beautiful silkbound book with lovely lay-flat pages they are sure to enjoy browsing through for years to come.

Can't wait to create your wedding album to go with this one!

terrica + mike wedding preview

These two have smiles that could brighten any day. And yesterday they were so happy, they kept the rain away for their beautiful outdoor ceremony. Under a lovely arch of greenery and flowers, and surrounded by joyful family and friends, Terrica and Mike became Mr. & Mrs. Bailey.

Can't wait to share more!

beignets + a rainy day in new orleans

“Don't you just love those long rainy afternoons in New Orleans when an hour isn't just an hour - but a little piece of eternity dropped into your hands - and who knows what to do with it?”

This question, posed by Blanche in Tenneessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, seems quite appropriate for our short but sweet trip to the Crescent City this week. In the midst of shooting, visiting friends and stormy weather in New Orleans, Bryan and I took a few shots with Fugifilm's x100s to offer a small visual explanation.

Wonderful time which ended way too quickly. But we soaked up and enjoyed each hour in New Orleans, and were transported for a moment just as Blanche suggests.

tuesday tip: candles

Outdoor wedding ceremonies are beautiful and can be enhanced with the glowing luminance of lit candles. One important tip for having this added ambiance in an al fresco setting is using items such as lanterns, jars and hurricane vases. Even if the weather man does not predict hurricane winds on your wedding day, the softest whoosh can extinguish your flames (only in a literal sense, of course). And you'd hate to experience that awkward moment when the wind takes out your unity candle!

There are tons so unique ways and styles to showcase your candles, so get creative and instead of stressed out if you're enjoying this type of lighting on your big day!

elizabeth + chad wedding preview

So much love poured into one important day. Loved capturing the backyard barn wedding of these two yesterday--especially when the wind took hold of her veil while they were sharing some sweet newly married moments after their ceremony. Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Berchak!

tuesday tip: taxes

Let me start right off the bat by stating that I am not a certified accountant. This post is not offering financial advice. As an artist, I don't even know that I'm allowed to talk numbers and statistics. But I can speak to imagination and ideas. The wedding tip this week is simply to bring to light a few ideas that might be helpful for you in another 364 days. Though you should bring these ideas to your accountant to make sure they are proper and lawful before proceeding.

Hopefully the huge weight of filing taxes is off your shoulders as of yesterday. As we're now in the midst of a new tax year, I began doing a little research to see if there are parts of your wedding that you can deduct.

When approaching this subject, I like how eHow contributor Christa Titus gives the following warning regarding writing off wedding costs in an online article: "Consider whether you are willing to endure an audit for your attempted deductions. Quirky write-offs are red flags for the IRS."

Titus goes on to suggest what appear to be three good options for wedding related tax deductions:

  • donating to charities in lieu of giving traditional wedding favors
  • donating your wedding dress to a non-profit after your wedding
  • donating your flowers to a nursing home after your wedding

Although getting a tax deduction is perhaps the last thing you're thinking about while picking out the perfect dress, wedding write-offs may be something to at least consider when it comes time to file next year. One of the biggest things eHow contributor Wendy Rose says in her online article to remember now is to get documentation.

"Whether you have your taxes done by a professional accountant or take care of them yourself," says Rose, "it's important to document each of these wedding tax write-offs. Keep all your receipts for any purchases you make and request a donation sheet (signed by the organization) that states how much you donated, what you donated and when."

Even if you don't file any wedding-related deductions, at the very least it's good to think about a way for even more people to enjoy those beautiful flower arrangements someone so carefully created. Think about how much it would brighten up a nursing home! Or what if you arranged for any leftover food to be taken to a shelter? That could really make someone's day!

A venue in Atlanta we love because of the way they give back is the Cator Woolford Gardens. Hidden among 39 acres of hardwood forest right in the city, these gardens are a beautiful setting for a wedding. And maybe even more beautiful is the fact that most of your wedding rental fee is given to the Frazer Center to help fund programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Talk about a wedding fee you can feel really great about!
Again, please work with a certified professional if attempting to write off any wedding-related expenses (or just in general because they know what they're doing and can really save you some stress...and hopefully a little money too!).

melissa rainey headshots

Love this gal!

She is a true force and I can't wait to see what she'll be acting in next. Melissa brought tons of personality and energy to her headshot session, and we got some great looks. We talked about the theatre and some of our favorite plays. And we laughed a lot. I love the people I get to meet and capture!

brooks family

Beautiful the wild.

This family of six was so much fun to capture recently. Each one of them individually has an exciting personality just waiting to break loose. Silly, serious and seriously silly. The boys told me jokes and took turns holding their baby sister. This littlest gal smiled and cooed. (You can tell any future suitor will have more than just dad to impress!) Clay and Ashley laughed and looked like they were always meant to have these four extra people in their lives.

Together, they are a beautiful bunch.

We laughed, blew bubbles and even hopped in a creek. Here's a few favorites from our little afternoon adventure together.

Thanks for a great day, Brooks family! You've got some real treasures!
